Step 1: Melt the Wax
Heat GW® 454 slowly to approximately 185°F (85°C), stirring occasionally until the wax is completely melted and uniform.
Avoid unnecessarily prolonged heating after the wax has completely melted.
Step 2: Add Fragrance Oil
Once the wax reaches approximately 185°F (85°C):
- Add your measured fragrance oil.
- Stir gently and thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes.
- Use up to approximately 10% fragrance oil by weight for container candles.
Always test each fragrance oil individually to determine the percentage that provides the best scent and burn performance.
Step 3: Add Candle Dye (Optional)
If using candle dye, incorporate it into the melted wax and stir until completely dispersed.
Make sure your dye is fully incorporated to help achieve consistent color throughout the finished candle.
Step 4: Prepare Your Containers
Make sure your candle jars are clean, completely dry, and properly wicked before pouring.
Secure and center each wick before filling the vessel. Avoid using extremely cold containers, as dramatic temperature differences can affect glass adhesion and the finished appearance.
Step 5: Allow the Wax to Cool
After incorporating your fragrance, allow the wax to begin cooling toward the recommended pouring temperature.
Stir gently as needed to maintain an even mixture without introducing unnecessary air into the wax.

Pour GW® 454 at approximately 170°F (77°C) as a starting point.

Step 7: Evaluate the Finished Surface
Once the candle has completely hardened, inspect the surface and glass adhesion.
If you experience sinkholes, craters, or other surface imperfections, adjust your pour temperature by approximately 5°F at a time during subsequent test batches. Minor surface imperfections can also be corrected carefully with a heat gun.
Step 8: Cure Before Burning
Allow GW® 454 candles to cure for approximately 14 days before evaluating their final fragrance throw.

Can I fix the surface after the candle cools?

Why is my GW® 454 candle developing white crystals?
