Golden Wax® 415 Soy Wax

Step 1: Melt the Wax

Heat Golden Wax® 415 slowly to approximately 185°F (85°C), stirring occasionally until the wax is completely melted.

Avoid exposing the wax to unnecessary prolonged heat once it has fully melted.

Step 2: Add Fragrance Oil

Once the wax reaches approximately 185°F:

• Add your measured fragrance oil.
• Stir gently and thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes.
• Use up to approximately 10% fragrance oil by weight for container candles.

Always test your particular fragrance oil to determine the percentage that provides the best scent and burn performance.

Step 3: Add Candle Dye (Optional)

If using candle dye, incorporate it into the fully melted wax and stir until completely dispersed.

For consistent results, make sure the dye is completely incorporated before pouring your candles.

Step 4: Prepare Your Containers

Use clean, completely dry containers with properly secured and centered wicks.

If your containers or workspace are particularly cold, gently warming the vessels may help reduce dramatic temperature differences during cooling.

Step 5: Allow the Wax to Cool

Unlike GW® 444 and GW® 464, GW® 415 is commonly poured at a significantly lower temperature.

After incorporating your fragrance, allow the wax to cool while stirring gently as needed.

Step 6: Pour the Wax

Pour GW® 415 at approximately 90–100°F (32–38°C). A starting temperature of around 95°F (35°C) works well for testing.

Pour carefully into prepared containers and allow the candles to cool naturally at room temperature.

Keep freshly poured candles away from fans, drafts, cold countertops, open windows, and other sources of rapid temperature change.

Step 7: Inspect the Finished Surface

Once the wax has completely hardened, inspect the candle for frosting, rough tops, craters, or other surface imperfections.

These characteristics can occur naturally with pure GW® 415 soy wax. Minor imperfections can be corrected with a heat gun if a smoother finished appearance is desired.

Step 8: Cure Before Burning

Allow GW® 415 candles to cure for approximately 14 days before evaluating their final fragrance throw.

Rough or Bumpy Tops

Why does my GW® 415 candle have a rough surface?

GW® 415 is a pure soy wax with no additives, so rough tops, bumps, craters, and other surface variations can naturally occur as the wax crystallizes and cools.

How can I get smoother tops?

Experiment with your pour temperature within the recommended 90–100°F range and keep the cooling environment as consistent as possible. Avoid fans, drafts, cold countertops, and sudden temperature changes.

Can I fix the surface afterward?

Yes. Carefully use a heat gun to melt a thin layer across the top of the candle, then allow it to cool slowly and undisturbed.

Frosting

Why is my GW® 415 candle developing white crystals?

Frosting is a common characteristic of natural soy wax. Because GW® 415 does not contain additives designed to modify crystallization, frosting may be more noticeable than with some other soy container waxes.

Does frosting affect candle performance?

Generally, frosting is primarily cosmetic and does not mean the candle is defective.

How can I minimize frosting?

Maintain consistent heating, pouring, and cooling temperatures. Avoid rapid temperature changes and test different pour temperatures. Candle dyes can make frosting more visible, so colored formulas should be tested individually.

Wet Spots & Container Adhesion

Why does my GW® 415 wax look like it has wet spots against the jar?

These areas generally occur when the wax contracts slightly and pulls away from the glass as it cools. They may look like liquid between the wax and container, but they are typically an adhesion issue rather than actual moisture.

How can I improve glass adhesion?

Use clean, dry containers and allow the wax to cool slowly. If your jars are cold, gently warming them before pouring may help reduce dramatic temperature differences.

Sinkholes, Craters & Air Pockets

Why did a crater or depression form around my wick?

Pure soy wax contracts and crystallizes as it cools. With GW® 415, this can occasionally create depressions, craters, or cavities beneath the surface.

How can I correct them?

Carefully create relief holes near the affected area and use a heat gun to remelt the surface. The melted wax can then settle into small cavities below.

Is Golden Wax® 415 good for beginners?

Yes, but GW® 415 can require a little more experimentation than soy waxes formulated with additives. Because it is a pure soy wax, natural characteristics such as frosting, rough tops, and surface variation may be more noticeable.

For makers who want a straightforward 100% soy wax with no additives, GW® 415 is an excellent option and can also be used as a base for custom wax blends.

What fragrance load does Golden Wax® 415 support?
